Cobh Rocks is set in Ireland in the aftermath of the pandemic, and was filmed on car and train journeys from Cobh through West Cork to the Beara Peninsula. Culminating in a collage of multiple arrivals and departures, the overlaying of image and text documents the experiences of moving through different places. The crux of the work presents the act of journeying – a process of movement which is constantly in flux and never reaching a destination or end point. The fleeting nature of the images in the film is echoed by the ever-changing text. This is contrasted with the occasional still image such as the filming of a Standing Stone, which produces tension between the ancient histories of the landscape with the contemporary images of the industrial sites at the Port of Cobh.
A film by Samuel Levack.
Commissioned by Sirius Arts Centre, Cobh, Ireland.
